There is an unfair opinion held by some that people don’t change – that somehow individuals, by and large, remain the same throughout their lives. On “50 Ways to Kill Your Mammy,” though, Baz Ashmawy and his Irish pensioner mammy Nancy do their best to dispel such a notion.
Throughout this adventurous, yet heart-warming series, TV/radio personality, Baz, does his best to push Nancy out of her comfort zone. This, as you will see, is no easy feat.
As Baz attempts to get Nancy to leap from a plane, race a car in the desert, participate in a police bust, battle wild water activities, and eat funky foods, resistance is often met.
Nancy, hanging onto her fears, often panics and finds more interest in questioning an activity than participating in it. Baz, who knows his mother as well as any son should, must find the proper ways to encourage Nancy to trust him and what they’re up to.
At times, positive reinforcement helps, while other moments require a metaphorical kick in the shorts. Other instances, fortunately, can be swung by hilarious back and forth banter between Baz and Nancy.
Although the title suggests that Baz has an interest in knocking off Nancy, “50 Ways to Kill Your Mammy” is more about a mother and son strengthening their bond and developing a better understanding for one another.
Yes, Baz may push his luck with certain stunts, but Nancy’s willingness to trust her son enough to participate says more than any words could.
