5 Ways to Minimize Migraines

Migraine

When it comes to migraines, the pain and disruption they can bring to a person’s life is certainly daunting. Not only can consistent migraines stall your social life, they can also distract you from doing a job to the best of your ability.

To find relief, some migraine sufferers turn to medication to ease their symptoms. However, not all of us are comfortable with a strictly medicinal approach and would rather try to find more natural ways to shoo migraines out the door.

With that being the case, here are five ways you can help minimize how often migraines appear in your life.

1. Be a Well-Oiled Sleep Machine

A solid night’s sleep can very easily be taken for granted, thanks in large part to professional obligations, social events or late night TV show binging sessions. To curb pain near the brain, it’s encouraged to not just get enough sleep, but to develop a consistent sleeping pattern. Yes, that means going to bed and waking up at the same time every day, including weekends and holidays.

2. Get Physical

While too much exercise can certainly spawn a headache, research has shown that moderate aerobic exercise can lessen the blow of a migraine. In some cases, such activity can lessen the frequency in which you have a migraine.

3. Give Your Body Fuel

We’ve all had those days where we’ve (whoops!) skipped a meal and have later experienced a throbbing headache to help us immediately regret that misstep. Well, if you are prone to migraines already, letting your blood sugar and hydration levels drop will only cause more harm than good. Thus, it’s important to not skip meals and to keep a glass of water nearby.

4. Reach Out for a Rubdown

Since headaches and migraines can emerge in times of stress and physical discomfort, seeking out a massage therapist is a smart strategy. These strong-handed professionals are trained to find the source(s) of your tension, help loosen you up and put the body and mind at ease. Different strokes work for different folks, so seeking out the right masseuse with a technique that suits your needs is well worth the time.

5. Plug into the Tunes

Of course, it wouldn’t be the best idea to crank heavy metal in your headphones when a migraine begins. However, finding and listening to some soothing music at a reasonable level can prove to be a great way to relax the mind and release any pent up stress, tension or general discomfort.
